Alternative approaches to the handling and reprocessing of mine tailings and waste from a circular economy perspective are gaining significant traction in modern mine management thinking. While offering potential pathways to reducing environmental impact and increasing revenue streams, this concept requires reimagining important aspects of how we plan, operate, and regulate the mining process. THe workshop will take you through an exploration of current and evolving thought on circular economy approaches to tailings and waste in the WA mining sector.

Workshop topics will include:

• Pain points and perceived opportunity in alternative approaches to mine waste;
• Alignment of participant thinking against wider industry, government and research community viewpoints unearthed in a recent MRIWA stakeholder engagement exercise, and;
• Mapping of a research framework and future capability landscape to enable and support circular economy thinking in mine waste management.
