Dr. Mehdi Shirazi is a chemical engineer with over a decade of hands-on experience developing membrane technologies for resource recovery and water/wastewater treatment. Currently based in Western Australia, he works as a Researcher at Edith Cowan University, where he leads efforts in applied research, pilot-scale system development, and technology commercialization. His core expertise lies in designing membrane-based solutions to recover valuable minerals from complex waste streams, such as brines, tailings, and industrial effluents, while also producing high-purity water. Dr. Shirazi has worked across Canada, Denmark, and Australia, supporting industrial partners on sustainable water reuse, brine minimization, and circular economy strategies. His work bridges science and practice, helping companies move innovations from lab to field. Dr. Shirazi has led or supported multiple high-impact research projects with international and industrial funding. He also brings experience in team building, mentoring, and supporting industry partners in setting up in-house R&D and pilot programs.
