Alex Atkins has 10+ years of Non-executive Director (NED) experience with listed companies and NFPs. She is currently a NED of Perenti (ASX:PRN) and Aquirian (ASX:AQN). She is also a member of the 30%+ Club Australian Steering Committee, Chairs the Curtin University Mining Engineering Industry Advisory Group and is a member of the CSIRO Critical Minerals R&D Hub Stakeholder Advisory Group. She is a former NED of The Australasian Institute of Mining & Metallurgy, International Women in Mining & Strandline Resources. She is also a corporate consultant and is a part-time PhD candidate with Curtin University, researching board assurance of critical controls effectiveness.
Alex has 30+ years’ mining industry experience. Alex holds two Bachelor of Engineering Degrees and an MBA (Finance). Although Alex’s core competencies are as a mining engineer, geotechnical engineer & geologist, she has developed strong skills in finance, strategy, risk and governance. She is a Fellow of the Governance Institute of Australia, Graduate Member of the Australian Institute of Company Directors and is a Chartered Professional Fellow of The AusIMM and Engineers Australia. Alex is one of the few women in Australia to be an EngExec and to hold First Class Mine Manager’s Certificates. She was WA’s first female District Inspector of Mines. In the 1990’s she was the first female underground mining engineer to work in PNG, where she was illegal and taboo. In 2011 she was a Finalist in the WA CME Women in Resources Awards and a Finalist in the Australian Mining Prospect Awards (Mining’s Female of the Year). She was one of 2018’s 100 Global Inspirational Women in Mining (WIMUK) and was inducted into the Western Australian Women’s Hall of Fame in 2019 for her contribution to the industry on diversity and innovation. She is a mum of two kids, now aged 18 and 21.
