Tzila is a globally recognised sustainability leader with over 20 years’ experience working in the resources sector. She has worked across Australia, the UK and Middle East and South Africa.

Tzila is the Head of Sustainability for Sandfire Resources where she leads the Group function and is responsible for non-financial disclosures, human rights, climate change and nature.

Prior to Sandfire, Tzila was Head of Sustainability and Social Performance (GM) for Newcrest Mining, where she led the sustainability and social performance group function. In this role she initiated and managed the Newcrest Sustainability Fund, an entity that directed social investment into strategic projects to support business objective and improve community resilience as well as holding responsibilities for non-financial reporting, indigenous engagement, and climate change.

Prior to Newcrest, Tzila worked for Bp Australia for ten years as Director Policy, Environment and Community Affairs, leading the company’s advocacy program for climate policy in Australia and NZ. In this role she was responsible for delivering Bp’s Reconciliation Action Plan and establishing its long-term partnerships with the MURRA Indigenous Business Leadership Program at Melbourne Business School. As part of Bp’s retail expansion, Tzila lead the inauguration of the BP OzHarvest partnership which continues to be a key community partnership for BP and BP customers in Australia.

Tzila’s early career includes three years working at Shell Australia as the GHG Coordinator and climate advocacy advisor and 3 years working at KPMG Australia and South Africa as a Manager in the Sustainability and Climate Change Advisory Services. This role included sustainability report assurance, Verification for Clean Development Mechanism projects and early valuation models of biodiversity. She also worked for the World Conservation Union (IUCN) as a Program Manager, where she was seconded to the South African Government to develop a program of work for the UN Commission on Sustainable Development, this took her to New York where she presented at the United Nations on behalf of the South African government.

Tzila has a Bachelor of Science, Earth Science (Environmental Management) and a Masters in Environmental Science from the University of London, University College London. She also holds a Master in Developmental Economics, Sustainable Development from The Sustainability Institute at Stellenbosch University.
