As CPM General Manager – Sustainability & Environment, Bruce leads the team responsible for ensuring its Pilbara-based operation, Sino Iron, operates within a complex sustainability and environmental regulatory framework. A true iron ore value adding megaproject on the WA coast, Sino Iron employees around 3000 people and consists of a mine, a processing plant, tailings storage facility, port, power station and desalination plant. Obtaining approvals, monitoring for compliance and reporting to multiple regulators makes the work interesting and challenging. There’s a lot of focus on reducing greenhouse gas emissions the building the pathway to project decarbonising project. The majority of GHG emissions comes from a very efficient gas fired combined cycle power station, while the balance comes from diesel consumption associted with the mining operations. Electrification of the mining assets and access to renewable energy are among the challenges.
